And The Artist Say... SIMEO |
Simeo Says....Why So Many Thieves In southern Soul Music. This is my first year as a Southern Soul recording artist. My background has always been in R&B and Hip Hop. I decided about a year ago to venture into Southern Soul music which demographically the states are Tx, La ,Al ,Ga ,Ar, Ms, Tn ,Fl. Growing up in the heart of Flint Michigan where many families had migrated from the south to find work at GM auto plants, I was exposed to Soul music and Blues music. My first bad experience happened last year when I met a so called known radio promotions person whom I won't mention by name, At the time when we met, this person represented an artist named TK Soul. He assured me that he could get my first single Get Low played on all the top radio stations in the Southern Soul genre, even though I had never heard of this radio promotions guy in my genre of music, an artist I was producing at the time recommended him. I ended up paying this person a substantial amount of money and I received my first radio reports in a few weeks. My first red flag was that they were hand written and not professionally typed as I was used to. My second radio report was much of the same. To make a long story short I began calling radio stations where my radio reports showed heavy air play just to see if I could buy commercials in those markets or basically to introduce myself to the DJs and thank them for there support. I contacted station after station and they didn't know of my song Get Low and they My latest bad experience came from a DJ that I had become friends with so I thought. It was time to get my song from my new CD out to radio. I was assured once again that every DJ in my genre I was told that even more DJs would get my songs because this person had a larger E-mail base than the top guy who's better known for this type of service in Southern Soul Music. Once again I began contacting radio stations and no one had received the E-mail advertisement. I requested my money back as I did from the first promoter but that led to unanswered calls and unanswered E-mails. I recently had to hire someone else to send my new song out by E-mail, but unfortunately so far I'm running into many DJs that didn't get it and now I'm faced with sending the song to DJs myself even though I paid for the service. This is happening to many artists in Southern Soul Music either by radio promotion's people or by DJs who just take your money and never play your song the way they promised, or they just take your money and throw your hard work in the trash. I want to be a voice for all the hard working artists like myself who put there blood and sweat in there music. The Southern Soul music industry has lost its integrity because of people who prey on innocent artists and steal money from them, this must be corrected. I hate to say it but one day you thieves are going to get brutally hurt by one of the artists you've stolen from and I hope for your sake it's not to late to Do The Right Thing. Thanks |
