What’s up my friends and artist of the Southern Soul/Blues/ R&B Genre. Hope all is well. This is Kenne’ Wayne. I’m writing this because I love what I do, singing and performing. I’ve been recording since 1995 and have released seven CDs. During that time I’ve watched artist, promoters and radio jocks come and go. The record business also diminished over the years. Some people might say that it is a part of life and business. I can agree with them to a certain extent. However, I think part of the reason for the southern soul genre falling apart is from shady promoters trying to use artist and money hungry DJ’s that prey on artist. In my opinion, it’s a shame that we are in this situation, some may agree and some may not. Some will agree that we need more booking agencies to give artists a fair chance at being recognized and to give promoters the right advice, not advice to fatten the booking agencies pocket. Most of all we need to make sure that the people that attend these concerts get their money’s worth and not fifteen minutes shows from ten different artists.
As artist we are like crabs in a bucket. One can’t come up for the next one pouring salt on him. To my fellow artist stop and look around, they are not showing our homes on cribs or BET and we’re not driving luxury cars, not like that holds any value in life. But we are out here on these roads traveling and I think that we should have more than just a good time on the weekend. What happens when the parties over, we’re right back struggling to get to the next gig. As artist we lost respect for one another. We get a record played for three weeks and some of us loose our minds. The quality of records is very poor today. Everyone talks about getting with major record companies or getting the records played on television or on main stream radios. We are so far from accomplishing that because we allow the quality of music to just slip away. Let’s not forget about these online sites with there out dated charts or sites that are controlled by record companies. If you’re not going to create charts that would be helpful to the genre please stop because everybody can tell that they are only helpful to your pockets. To sum it all up we need to get back to business. Remember there are still a few Professional artists, Promoters and Radio Jocks out there. Thanks, Kenne’ Wayne
